There’s something about a chambray shirt that just screams All-American to me. I usually associate it with even more denim and images of red, white and blue. I’ve about worn my chambray into the ground but still refuse to retire it. I love how versatile it is, and how easily it can easily be toughened up with some faux leather.

Hot High Line

Highline{Blouse: H&M (thrifted); Shorts & Cuff: H&M; Wedges: Target; Tote: Gap; Sunglasses: Vintage (Brooklyn Flea)}

This past Tuesday, I took the day off from work for an extended Memorial Day holiday. Jim and I spent the day in Manhattan visiting the High Line extension in Chelsea, and then doing some gallery hopping in the area. It’s safe to say we were both pretty “arted-out” after the weekend was over.

It was ridiculously hot out, so I decided to try out an outfit similar to my Memorial Day Inspiration board and go with a breezy leopard blouse, shorts and wedges. I seem to be gravitating towards blouses and shorts a lot this season.

Stay tuned for posts on both our High Line adventure as well as our gallery hopping in the next day or so!

Spots and Dots

Dots and Spots
{Blouse: Old Navy; Shorts: Market Publique; Wedges: Target; Bag: Nine West (old)}

On Sunday during Memorial Day weekend Jim and I decided to head to the city and view the Whitney Biennial. It was pretty hot and sticky out, so I wanted to wear something that would be cool outside while be air conditioner friendly inside the gallery as well. I also wanted to be on the dressier side because galleries are always more fun when you’re a bit dressed up. My vintage polka dot shorts paired with my cheetah spot bag proved to suit my needs perfectly.

Didn’t Do It

Haircut Day

So I didn’t cut my hair as I had planned to. I had major plans to get this rad curly bob, but after some discussion with my stylist, my curls are a lot looser than Keri Hilson’s and to pull off that cut I’d potentially need to use a curling iron. I was looking for a cut that was less maintenance than my current style (i.e. NO maintenance), so that obviously wasn’t going to work for me.  I’ve also been kind of liking my hair better since I’ve been styling my bangs all curly and flipping it all over into a deep side part.  First day I wore it this way in public I had a famous artist at an art opening ask me if I was an Italian movie star (true story!).

So not wanting to screw up a hairstyle that already had potential, I had my stylist add in some additional layers to make it “bigger”.  I kind of consider a more modernized version of an 80’s style.  So far I love it.

I have this bad habit of never going out to do anything after getting my haircut. Reason I say it’s bad is no girl’s hair is ever as awesome as after they go to the salon, so it’s all the reason to make plans to go out on the town after an appointment. I always just go home and veg out.

Instead of making it a total waste of a good hair day, I decided to try out Jim and my new photo backdrop we installed in our office. Portia even came in for an appearance. The backdrop works really well, just have to get some better light equipment I think. And I think next time I take photos I won’t wrap the backdrop around to the floor so I look like I’m floating. It was fun to test out though!

Vegan Versions / DVF Opal Wedges

30 Mar

Today’s vegan versions is courtesy of the Budget Babe.  I was so happy she posted about these because I was looking to upgrade my wedges to an all black pair this spring, and these were perfect for me.

I love how chunky and edgy the DVF wedges are.  They were exactly what I was looking for.  The Target Mossimo ones are almost an exact match!  I already ordered and got mine and have been wearing them non-stop in this beautiful, early spring weather we’ve been experiencing the past week and a half in NYC.

This week my main blogging goal is to finally finish my 30 for 30 Summer Challenge posts.  It’s getting ridiculous now, I finished the challenge over the summer and here it is fall now and I still don’t have them all up.  So consider my posting schedule out the window until I get this done, fo’ real.

Everyone have a fun week!

I know I still owe everyone my final 5 outfits for my 30 for 30 challenge. The last week of the challenge the weather made it tough to get good photos. So I plan on re-wearing them in the next week or so and knocking those posts out.

This was the first outfit I wore after finishing the challenge.  I totally love Dolce and Gabbana’s  leopard/polka dot dresses from their Fall 2010 collection, so I figured it would be fun to play with what I already had in my closet. Call me a copy cat.

I’ve been sitting here for the past five minutes trying to think about what to write for this post.  Even worse the best title I could come up with for the post is Pinkadots.  Hmmmm.

Not much happened on day 23.  It rained.  After taking these pictures I went to the gym and used the stepmill (which by the way totally sucks but does the job).  Thrilling.

Only seven more of these 30 for 30 challenge posts to go!

Summer Stage

Let’s rewind back to day sixteen….

As promised, here’s my super late post on what I wore to Summer Stage.  My friend Glenna and I went to go see Jim Gaffigan (my favorite comedian EVER)  perform in Central Park.

Here’s what I wore.

Day Sixteen 2

Day Sixteen 3

Despite it taking me over an hour and half to get home from work (a drive that should only take 20 minutes) and then another 30 minutes to get to the park from my apartment, it was totally worth it.  Once I had a beer in hand and some Asia Dogs, I was in the best mood ever.  The weather as well as the scenery in the park couldn’t have been more perfect.  It was the epitome of what summer nights should be.

As expected, Jim Gaffigan was hilarious and actually did some new material I hadn’t heard yet which totally made my night.  His opener, a guy named John Pinette was pretty funny too though I he obviously has something against vegans.  A good third of his act was devoted to how he’s confused about vegan diets and juicing appliances.  Boo!  Stuff like that makes me wish people would do their research first as to what something is all about  prior to making public statements in front of thousands of people.  Especially in this city which is full of vegans, vegetarians and eco and health minded residents!  Lucky for him I’m a vegan that can laugh along and take stereotypes in stride and not personally.  The rest of his act was still pretty funny and he did sound just like Gilbert Gottfried, so I guess I’ll give him a pass for stupidity.
