Going to a Baby Shower

Baby Shower Outfit
WHAT I’M WEARING // VAUTE COUTURE Belden Coat / Vintage Blouse / MAVI Jeans / TARGET Heels / CORNELIA GUEST Bag / SHOP MAMI Necklace (c/o)

A few weekends ago, Jim and I took a drive out to New Jersey to attend a close friends’ baby shower.

This was really our first set of friends in our circle having a baby, so I’m pretty inexperienced as far as showers go.  I’ve gone to lots and lots of bridal ones but baby ones are total foreign territory to me.  Getting dressed for it was kind of stressful.  Will it be all crazy girlie like a bridal shower so I should wear a dress?  Or is it going to be really casual?  I had no clue.  It was a co-ed shower which made it even more confusing.

I ended up deciding on a totally on trend black and white checkered vintage blouse I picked up a while back with a black blazer (which you can’t see) my trusty skinny jeans and heels.  Yes, the neon heels are back!  It’s been a while since I wore them and they were a big hit, especially with our friend’s 6 year old nieces who went crazy over the color.  They were so cute when I walked in, yelling “Mommy!  Her shoes are so bright like highlighters!”.

The outfit wound up working great because the blouse was formal and dressed up, but the jeans were casual so I would be good to go whatever the situation (which did end up being somewhat casual).

How did I do?  Any advice for me the next baby shower I attend?

I’m finally back in New York City after a jam-packed week last week. I spent Wednesday through Friday on a business trip in Denver, where I had meetings and played golf (yuck). On Friday, instead of coming straight home I decided to make a stop in Chicago to visit my friends Rebecca (aka Bex) and Vik, who I hadn’t seen in almost four years. We had the best time catching up over cocktails, shopping, and wandering the various neighborhoods of the city.

I have close to 200 photos I’m currently editing from this weekend trip, which I’ll share on Friday. Thanks to Bex for grabbing these quick shots of me, I absolutely loved this mural and it was the perfect place to stop and take a few photos.

Army Business

{Tee: Unknown Costco brand; Skirt: Michael Kors (thrifted); Heels: Mossimo for Target (thrifted); Necklace: Stylemint}

I found this Michael Kors pencil skirt during a thrifting excursion last year and when I spotted it, I knew I had to have it. The thing fits me like a glove, and only cost me $12! Plus I absolutely love how it adds a slight military edge to any work appropriate outfit I put together. I’ve worn this skirt to many a business meeting and conference and it always seems appropriate, yet slightly edgy. It’s one of my favorite pieces and one I don’t see myself letting go of soon.

Day Twenty One 1- Display

{Top: Vintage (Buffalo Exchange); Black Walking Shorts: I forget where I got them, they’re old; Camera Bag: THEIT; Wedges: Dolce Vita for Target; Necklace: Love Brigade; Cuff: H&M}

Does this outfit look remotely familiar?  Take this one… chop off the pants at the knees and voila! There you go.  Creative, huh?

For the record, beloved Mavi jeans were not harmed in the making of this post. In case you were worried.  Don’t want anyone losing any sleep.

This is what I wore Thursday of last week.  My husband and I attended a fundraiser that evening to benefit the Woodstock Animal Sanctuary.  It was held on a rooftop here in Williamsburg, and there was amazing vegan hor d’oeuvres, cocktails and entertainment.  We had heard about the event last-minute the night before, and after hearing it was going to be held so close to home we had to swing by and check it out.  All the proceeds are going to go towards repairs and improvements for the sanctuary’s duck pond and pig barn.  I have yet to actually visit the sanctuary myself, but being it’s only a two-hour drive north of the city I’m making it a goal of mine to get there before the end of the summer.

All in all we had a fantastic time and I had to opportunity to meet and network with more vegans from the area, which is always fun.

I had attempted to take more photos at the event, but again we had gray, crappy weather and none of my images came out well.  Here’s hoping the weather breaks sooner rather than later!

{Army Jacket: Gift from Husband; White Tee: Dollar Store Find; Denim Shorts: H&M; Necklace: Love Brigade; Leopard Booties: Qupid via Alloy}

On Saturday morning I made my boxing debut.  Like a for real one at a real boxing gym, not the silly girlie-cardio ones at the local gym.  My friend who’s a professional personal trainer talked me into it.  I initally was totally freaked out I wasn’t in good enough shape, but totally held my own.  I did just as many push-ups as the 250 pound men did, and almost held my own a little too well.  Apparently my hand wraps sucked and I totally busted up my knuckles, even splitting one open.  After the class, my friend and I went to get mani-pedis and it was fun trying to explain my knuckles to the nail tech.

Also making their first debut: my leopard print booties.  I love these things.  Wore this Saturday evening to go out with my husband and friends.  We went out for dinner and then to a local bar and didn’t end up making it home until 3 am.  Gotta love fun summer evenings!
