Inside Out in Times Square

7 May

JR Times Square
WHAT I’M WEARING // YASO Faux Leather Jacket // H&M Blouse // MAVI Jeans (Old) // CHINESE LAUNDRY Leopard Loafers (old, via Delia’s) // HURLEY Backpack // JUSTFAB Sunglasses

Last Friday, Jim and I took our friends Gina and Mark to MOMA and then headed slightly cross-town to Times Square.  The street artist JR currently has the Inside Out Project set up there and we wanted to check it out and hopefully get to participate.

JR is best known for his portraits, so as part of this project he’s taking portraits of New Yorkers throughout the 5 boroughs and installing them in areas around the city.  To make the process crazy efficient, they have a fully outfitted photography studio truck, so they’ve been moving the truck from neighborhood to neighborhood.  If you visit their Facebook Page, the portraits done around the Rockaways and other Sandy stricken areas are so powerful it makes me well up.  I highly recommend checking it out.

We had heard the photo truck was in Times Square so we took a quick walk over to see if we could participate.  Sadly, they weren’t there due to a 10k race being set up for the weekend.  But we still had a great time enjoying the incredible weather and checking out all the portraits pasted to the sidewalks.

Gina and I also wanted to take the opportunity to take our own portraits amongst the portraits.  How meta, right?

The Inside Out Project is supposed to be in Times Square through May 10th. Jim and I are still hoping to make it there one day after work to get ours done. If you participate you have the option to either have it pasted at the site, or to take it home with you. We’d love to have the portraits for our apartment, so fingers crossed we’ll be able to make it happen!

Leggings and Boots

Lazy Leopard
What I’m Wearing / Levi’s Jacket (via Crossroads Trading Co) / Alloy Sweater / Tightsplease Leggings (c/o) / JustFab Keira Moto Boots (c/o) / Cornelia Guest Handbag

All I’ve been wearing lately is leggings and boots.  It seems I get lazier and lazier as I get deeper into my 30’s.  This morning when I was getting ready for work (yes,  I’m even wearing them to work, super lazy) I near had a panic attack when I saw I was down to my last clean pair of leggings for the week.

Tightsplease had contacted me not too long ago and generously offered me my pick of an item from their store to check out. Didn’t take long at all for me to find these leopard paneled leggings on their website and before I knew it they we’re here for me to try on. Perfect choice for me considering they’re leggings plus leopard, which equals awesome.

Another new acquisition I’ve been wearing non-stop are these moto boots from JustFab. I’ve been wearing heels so often the flat boots are a welcome break.

I met the JustFab team at the LuckyFABB event this past September and I was stoked all their products are coincidentally vegan. Not only are they vegan, they’re chic and inexpensive too. Since getting these boots they gifted me with I’ve bought another pair of knee-high wedge boots and a hot leopard and yellow clutch I can’t wait to use.  Those boots go perfect with leggings as well, which means no one will see me in normal clothing while in public for quite some time.

What are some of your new favorite “lazy day” wear acquisitions?

I’m finally back in New York City after a jam-packed week last week. I spent Wednesday through Friday on a business trip in Denver, where I had meetings and played golf (yuck). On Friday, instead of coming straight home I decided to make a stop in Chicago to visit my friends Rebecca (aka Bex) and Vik, who I hadn’t seen in almost four years. We had the best time catching up over cocktails, shopping, and wandering the various neighborhoods of the city.

I have close to 200 photos I’m currently editing from this weekend trip, which I’ll share on Friday. Thanks to Bex for grabbing these quick shots of me, I absolutely loved this mural and it was the perfect place to stop and take a few photos.

Army Business

6 Sep

{Tee: Unknown Costco brand; Skirt: Michael Kors (thrifted); Heels: Mossimo for Target (thrifted); Necklace: Stylemint}

I found this Michael Kors pencil skirt during a thrifting excursion last year and when I spotted it, I knew I had to have it. The thing fits me like a glove, and only cost me $12! Plus I absolutely love how it adds a slight military edge to any work appropriate outfit I put together. I’ve worn this skirt to many a business meeting and conference and it always seems appropriate, yet slightly edgy. It’s one of my favorite pieces and one I don’t see myself letting go of soon.

I know I still owe everyone my final 5 outfits for my 30 for 30 challenge. The last week of the challenge the weather made it tough to get good photos. So I plan on re-wearing them in the next week or so and knocking those posts out.

This was the first outfit I wore after finishing the challenge.  I totally love Dolce and Gabbana’s  leopard/polka dot dresses from their Fall 2010 collection, so I figured it would be fun to play with what I already had in my closet. Call me a copy cat.

{Tee: Forever 21; Denim Shorts: H&M; Boots: Gifted; Bag: Score Swap Meet Find}

I totaled up each item I’ve worn during this 30 for 30 challenge and I realized I have yet to wear two items! I hadn’t worn my long sleeve cardigan or my regular skinny jeans. Since my chosen footwear up to this point wasn’t appropriate for a concert, I instead decided to pull a wild card and break out these booties to wear to the Soundgarden concert.

Day Twenty Four 3

The hubby and I are huge 90’s grunge fans and Soundgarden is at the top of our list of favorite bands. We were beyond stoked to hear they were doing a reunion tour. At the concert we were too lazy to push our way all the way upfront, but did end up with great seats to enjoy the show from. They sounded exactly the same as they did on their CD’s, so we left the show very happy fans. My favorite part about concerts are the crazy light shows, and this one had no shortage of them.

Are you going to any concerts this summer? I love summer for all it’s concert choices.

Problem Solved

12 Jul

Birthday dress problem solved. Thanks Tracy!!

Thanks to my rad friend Tracy, I’ve got the birthday party dress covered. Today she surprised me with this great leopard print Zara dress. It fits me perfect, can be remixed a gazillion ways and has a very full skirt which I’m totally not used to but so glad to now have in my closet. All my other dresses I own are either body con or wrap dresses. Putting this one on initially I couldn’t help but feel super girlie in it. But then again it’s girlie balanced with leopard which is pretty sweet. With a bad ass studded belt and some tough looking heels, I’ll be set on my big birthday party day!

A Tree No Longer Grows in Brooklyn

Day Eighteen 1-Display
{Leopard Tee: Forever 21; Army Jacket: Gift from Husband; Flare Jeans: Victoria’s Secret; Wedges: Dolce Vita for Target; Cuff: H&M; Sunglasses: Husband’s}

I noticed while putting this post together that all of a sudden, the tree is gone. This spot is my go to spot for quick photos, and there was always a tree in the background. Now there’s just a stub.

I asked my husband about it and he said some city sanitation workers had come by earlier in the week and they took it down, citing something about it being dead and “about to fall and kill someone”. Guess it was a zombie tree. Jokes aside, I was tremendously sad by this because just the week prior, I had spotted a nest full of baby birds inside a hole in the tree. All I can think about now is if those baby birds are okay and if the sanitation workers even noticed they were in there. My husband being the sweetheart he is tried to assure me the mother bird probably took her babies to safety, but I don’t know.

Sad.

Vegan Versions / Jimmy Choo Leopard Loafers

7 Jul

While at the beach with some friends this past weekend, we were reading fashion magazines and one of the girls mentioned she loved Jimmy Choo’s leopard loafers. Leopard? Loafers? Why had I not heard of these shoes yet?! Once I was home for the evening I immediately did a search for them, totally fell in love with them, and again was on a quest for the vegan version.

I actually found two different, viable options that were vegan and very similar to the original. Which one do you think I should go with?

WTF Weather?

Day Nine 1-Display
{Denim Blazer: Thrifted; Leopard Tee: Forever 21; Jeans: Mavi; Flats: Steve Madden (thrifted); Camera Bag: THEIT}

I noticed when putting this post together that for the vast majority of my photos for this challenge, it’s been all rainy and gray outside. I don’t know what the hell is up with this weather, but by the looks of it we haven’t seen sunshine in ages. That or the sun only comes out when I’m at the office and then disappears on my ride home for the evening.
