Inside Out in Times Square

7 May

JR Times Square
WHAT I’M WEARING // YASO Faux Leather Jacket // H&M Blouse // MAVI Jeans (Old) // CHINESE LAUNDRY Leopard Loafers (old, via Delia’s) // HURLEY Backpack // JUSTFAB Sunglasses

Last Friday, Jim and I took our friends Gina and Mark to MOMA and then headed slightly cross-town to Times Square.  The street artist JR currently has the Inside Out Project set up there and we wanted to check it out and hopefully get to participate.

JR is best known for his portraits, so as part of this project he’s taking portraits of New Yorkers throughout the 5 boroughs and installing them in areas around the city.  To make the process crazy efficient, they have a fully outfitted photography studio truck, so they’ve been moving the truck from neighborhood to neighborhood.  If you visit their Facebook Page, the portraits done around the Rockaways and other Sandy stricken areas are so powerful it makes me well up.  I highly recommend checking it out.

We had heard the photo truck was in Times Square so we took a quick walk over to see if we could participate.  Sadly, they weren’t there due to a 10k race being set up for the weekend.  But we still had a great time enjoying the incredible weather and checking out all the portraits pasted to the sidewalks.

Gina and I also wanted to take the opportunity to take our own portraits amongst the portraits.  How meta, right?

The Inside Out Project is supposed to be in Times Square through May 10th. Jim and I are still hoping to make it there one day after work to get ours done. If you participate you have the option to either have it pasted at the site, or to take it home with you. We’d love to have the portraits for our apartment, so fingers crossed we’ll be able to make it happen!

WHAT I’M WEARING // YASSO Faux Leather Jacket // H&M Dress //MIA Boots // CORNELIA GUEST Bag // JUSTFAB Sunglasses

So it’s warm enough nowadays for dresses but not for sandals just yet.  I couldn’t wait to wear this new graphic, black and white tie dye dress I recently picked up at H&M so I threw on some moto style boots and I was ready to go. I have a feeling this outfit will be a uniform for me the next coming weekends.  I LOVE the entire look.

I really like wearing maxi dresses on weekends.  They’re super comfortable and all you have to do is throw it on over your head and you are dressed and presentable for the day with minimal effort.

Notice a trend here on Brooklyn Bliss?  I don’t like having to think or put a lot of effort into much of anything.  Everything’s got to be easy.  That and comfortable.  I might seem pretty put together but truth is I’m just on auto-pilot and have found systems over the years that work well for me.  In all honesty I’m probably one of the laziest people on the planet.  Truth.

WHAT I’M WEARING // A QUESTION OF Tee (bought in Iceland) // ZARA Blazer // H&M Jeans // TARGET Heels // CORNELIA GUEST Handbag // JUSTFAB Sunglasses

I’m not usually a fan of graphic tees, but I spotted this one at a boutique while in Iceland and just had to get it.  I absolutely love its Givenchy reference, and at the same time speaks to my values in a weird way.  The fact that it’s somewhat profane also sold the deal for me.  Even my mother was like “Oh!  You have to buy that shirt it’s soooo you!”.

So in other news I cut all my hair off last week!  These are actually the last photos I took prior to the big chop.  Now that it’s been a week and I’m used to the new ‘do, it’s actually kind of strange for me looking at my old, long locks.  I must say though, I’m a much bigger fan of short hair on me.  I think it’s much more flattering not only for my face and physique, but also for my curls.

Since I was going to chop off over 12 inches of my hair, there was no way I wasn’t going to get it documented somehow plus I wanted the photos for when I donated my hair to Locks of Love.  So stay tuned later this week for photos of the final result as well as some from my actual appointment.

Colored and Patterned Jeans for Spring

3 Apr

JUSTFAB Signature Skinny Ombre $39.99

Over the past few weeks I’ve been completely uninspired to get dressed in the morning.  When I tried to figure out why, the answer was simple.  I hadn’t cleaned out my closet in over a year (where I usually do it every 6 months) and much of what I had I simply didn’t like anymore or didn’t fit.  I thank Crossfit for that.

So I finally did a big purge a few weekends ago and sold off most of what I was getting rid of, which then gives me some funds to buy new stuff!

The thing I was needing the worst to complete my wardrobe after I cleaned it out was new pants.  None of my pants fit properly anymore because of Crossfit.  I couldn’t get anything up over my quads anymore.  So first thing I decided to shop for was some new jeans.  Luckily my job is business casual, so I can wear jeans so long as they aren’t standard blue jeans.  Colored and patterned jeans are totally acceptable in my office, which is awesome because this spring that’s exactly what’s on trend so there are tons of options!

These are some of my most recent additions you’ll see on the blog soon enough.  I can’t wait to wear them all!

JUSTFAB Signature Skinny Printed in Black and White Snake $39.95

hmprod2H&M Slim Regular Jeans $29.95

Can’t wear these to the office, but they’re great for weekends.  I’ve been wanting ripped jeans for a while and these were inexpensive enough to try the trend without breaking the bank.

H&M Ankle Length Pants $34.95

I actually got these in a super cool black colored lace overlay version.  Couldn’t find it on their website.

NYDJ Alina Tuxedo Stripe Jeggings $130.00

What I’m Wearing // TOPSHOP Parka // VICTORIA’S SECRET Jeggings // H&M Tee // CORNELIA GUEST Bag // MIA Boots // NYC STREET VENDOR Beanie

After the snowstorm this past weekend, Jim and I spent the entire day on Saturday doing nothing and enjoying the snow day. We actually watched around 6 back to back episodes of Shark Tank. OMG I totally love that show now.

Sunday we were back to business on operation Clean House, so it meant we had to do a run to IKEA. Each time we go to IKEA, we know our marriage is meant to last forever because we always survive the trip. We have our arguments and spats while there, but we’ve learned to instantly identify when it’s “Ikea Fever” and scale it back a bit. We persevered, and made it home not only with a new cabinet for our kitchen but also a new rug for our living room and a few other items.

Bringing our IKEA goods out of our car and up the stairs into our apartment was a good test of my recent Crossfit training. There was several larger items that were over 50 pounds that I carried up the stairs with no issues at all. In the past, it would have been a major ordeal getting all that stuff into the apartment! This time around it was almost easy.

Speaking of Crossfit, I wanted to mention really quick how much I totally love these new Victoria’s Secret Jeggings. Since I started Crossfit none of my pants fit because although my waist is much smaller, my quads are now huge. After searching high and low on the internet for the best types of jeans for athletic builds, the common answer was anything with stretch, so I invested in a few pairs of these mid-rise jeggings and don’t know why I ever wore normal jeans. They are so comfortable and look the same as skinny jeans.

This post is getting really random. Let’s keep on this roll. I think this is the first debut of my new hair color on the blog. What do you think?

I’m finally back in New York City after a jam-packed week last week. I spent Wednesday through Friday on a business trip in Denver, where I had meetings and played golf (yuck). On Friday, instead of coming straight home I decided to make a stop in Chicago to visit my friends Rebecca (aka Bex) and Vik, who I hadn’t seen in almost four years. We had the best time catching up over cocktails, shopping, and wandering the various neighborhoods of the city.

I have close to 200 photos I’m currently editing from this weekend trip, which I’ll share on Friday. Thanks to Bex for grabbing these quick shots of me, I absolutely loved this mural and it was the perfect place to stop and take a few photos.

Last weekend Jim and I decided to head over to Soho for some fall shopping and flea market perusing. I wanted to take my cameras with me, so I finally broke out this awesome backpack Jim got me for my birthday.

Honestly, going the backpack route over a purse was extremely liberating. It had been so long since I’ve been hands free while shopping I totally forgot how awesome it was.

{What I’m Wearing: Blouse: Beacon’s Closet; Pants: H&M (thrifted); Heels: Zara (eBay); Watch: Michael Kors}

I’m not usually a huge fan of ruffles.  They remind me of pirates.

For some reason though I couldn’t help myself from purchasing this blouse when I found it at Beacon’s Closet.  I think it was the stripes.  Actually, I take that back I know it was the stripes.

As you may or may not know, I seem to have serious addiction issues with stripes, leopard and neon yellow.  I’m trying to figure out an outfit that includes all three for IFBCon and LuckyFABB in a few weeks.  Okay, not really but most likely I will be wearing at least two of those items in any given outfit seen around NYC during Fashion Week, and it won’t necessarily be a conscious decision.

So if you spot a girl with big curly hair wearing any of those things, be sure to say hi!

Brooklyn Tribal{Maxi Dress: Old Navy; Sandals: Melissa; Belt: H&M}

I bought this Old Navy dress back in July specifically for my Boston trip and I love it.  I’ve been wearing it to death this summer (that along with those neon sandals I’m sure everyone is already sick of seeing!).  I’m pretty picky with what patterns I wear.  I absolutely hate florals.  So this tribal print was a great, fresh addition to my wardrobe.

What new patterns have you been sporting this summer?

{Shirt: Old Navy; Faux Leather Shorts: Free People; Wedges: Target; Cuff: H&M; Sunglasses: Canal Street Vendor; Bag: Cornelia Guest}

There’s something about a chambray shirt that just screams All-American to me. I usually associate it with even more denim and images of red, white and blue. I’ve about worn my chambray into the ground but still refuse to retire it. I love how versatile it is, and how easily it can easily be toughened up with some faux leather.
