Vegan Shoe Line Beyond Skin Needs Your Help

22 Jul

Fashionable vegan footwear line Beyond Skin needs your help!

Beyond Skin is a 10 year old, self-funded, indie, UK vegan footwear label dedicated to designing cruelty-free, luxury shoes for stylish, discerning ladies.  Their current line is considered more of a luxury “boutique” one, meaning high style at a slightly higher price point.  Although the luxury line is fabulous, they have aspirations to create a new diffusion line.  This one will feature 10 styles, which have been designed for everyday wear at a more affordable price-point. This to me is a fantastic idea, being it’ll bring vegan and ethical footwear to the masses and a more pocket friendly price.  Plus, they’re all classic styles meaning they go with everything and will last season after season.

To help fund their new line, they created a Kickstarter campaign.  It’s only live for another 15 days, so if you want to support vegan fashion for the masses, be sure to do so today!

You learn more about the Kickstarter campaign as well as it’s perks by visiting here.

WHAT I’M WEARING // YASSO Faux Leather Jacket // H&M Dress //MIA Boots // CORNELIA GUEST Bag // JUSTFAB Sunglasses

So it’s warm enough nowadays for dresses but not for sandals just yet.  I couldn’t wait to wear this new graphic, black and white tie dye dress I recently picked up at H&M so I threw on some moto style boots and I was ready to go. I have a feeling this outfit will be a uniform for me the next coming weekends.  I LOVE the entire look.

I really like wearing maxi dresses on weekends.  They’re super comfortable and all you have to do is throw it on over your head and you are dressed and presentable for the day with minimal effort.

Notice a trend here on Brooklyn Bliss?  I don’t like having to think or put a lot of effort into much of anything.  Everything’s got to be easy.  That and comfortable.  I might seem pretty put together but truth is I’m just on auto-pilot and have found systems over the years that work well for me.  In all honesty I’m probably one of the laziest people on the planet.  Truth.

What I’m Wearing // TOPSHOP Parka // VICTORIA’S SECRET Jeggings // H&M Tee // CORNELIA GUEST Bag // MIA Boots // NYC STREET VENDOR Beanie

After the snowstorm this past weekend, Jim and I spent the entire day on Saturday doing nothing and enjoying the snow day. We actually watched around 6 back to back episodes of Shark Tank. OMG I totally love that show now.

Sunday we were back to business on operation Clean House, so it meant we had to do a run to IKEA. Each time we go to IKEA, we know our marriage is meant to last forever because we always survive the trip. We have our arguments and spats while there, but we’ve learned to instantly identify when it’s “Ikea Fever” and scale it back a bit. We persevered, and made it home not only with a new cabinet for our kitchen but also a new rug for our living room and a few other items.

Bringing our IKEA goods out of our car and up the stairs into our apartment was a good test of my recent Crossfit training. There was several larger items that were over 50 pounds that I carried up the stairs with no issues at all. In the past, it would have been a major ordeal getting all that stuff into the apartment! This time around it was almost easy.

Speaking of Crossfit, I wanted to mention really quick how much I totally love these new Victoria’s Secret Jeggings. Since I started Crossfit none of my pants fit because although my waist is much smaller, my quads are now huge. After searching high and low on the internet for the best types of jeans for athletic builds, the common answer was anything with stretch, so I invested in a few pairs of these mid-rise jeggings and don’t know why I ever wore normal jeans. They are so comfortable and look the same as skinny jeans.

This post is getting really random. Let’s keep on this roll. I think this is the first debut of my new hair color on the blog. What do you think?

Lock Me Up

Lock Me Up
What I’m Wearing / Old Navy Tee (similar) / Lasso Faux Leather Jacket (similar) / Mavi Jeans / JustFab Keira Moto Boots (c/o) / Gap Beanie (thrifted)

Okay, so go ahead and lock me up.  This is seriously pretty much the same outfit I wore last weekend, aside for a few adjustments to accommodate the warmer weather and activities I’d be doing that day.  Jim and I decided to do a last-minute Costco run which resulted in me grabbing the first things I saw in my closet and throwing them on.  Flat shoes, check.  Comfy t-shirt, check.  Beanie (my recent obsession), check.  Sure, I look like I belong in jail but the outfit did the job.

Leggings and Boots

What I’m Wearing / Levi’s Jacket (via Crossroads Trading Co) / Alloy Sweater / Tightsplease Leggings (c/o) / JustFab Keira Moto Boots (c/o) / Cornelia Guest Handbag

All I’ve been wearing lately is leggings and boots.  It seems I get lazier and lazier as I get deeper into my 30’s.  This morning when I was getting ready for work (yes,  I’m even wearing them to work, super lazy) I near had a panic attack when I saw I was down to my last clean pair of leggings for the week.

Tightsplease had contacted me not too long ago and generously offered me my pick of an item from their store to check out. Didn’t take long at all for me to find these leopard paneled leggings on their website and before I knew it they we’re here for me to try on. Perfect choice for me considering they’re leggings plus leopard, which equals awesome.

Another new acquisition I’ve been wearing non-stop are these moto boots from JustFab. I’ve been wearing heels so often the flat boots are a welcome break.

I met the JustFab team at the LuckyFABB event this past September and I was stoked all their products are coincidentally vegan. Not only are they vegan, they’re chic and inexpensive too. Since getting these boots they gifted me with I’ve bought another pair of knee-high wedge boots and a hot leopard and yellow clutch I can’t wait to use.  Those boots go perfect with leggings as well, which means no one will see me in normal clothing while in public for quite some time.

What are some of your new favorite “lazy day” wear acquisitions?

Keep It Conservative

Keep It Conservative
{What I’m Wearing: Sweater: no name brand (thrifted); Skirt: Michael Kors (thrifted, similar one here);  Boots: Aldo; Bag: Cornelia Guest}

I learned a few new things this week.

First is I should always let Jim take my outfit photos for me. He helped me out twice this week because I was short on time and didn’t feel like setting up my tripod. It took way less time, and the photos came out great because he has such a great artistic eye. In fact, in these photos he insisted on using this wall as the backdrop, and I didn’t understand why until I saw the images.

Rock on Jim, rock on.

Second thing I learned is I can’t wear what I used to wear to work now with my super red hair. The hair is accessory enough, and if I wear something else really colorful or busy looking it doesn’t come across super professional. The hair color is pretty punk rockish. Before the change I would very easily pull off neon heels and bright graphic blouses at work and with the new hair it’s almost sensory overload.

While I’m lucky my job adheres to a business casual dress code (plus most of my colleagues are men, and know nothing about professional women’s attire), it’s still extremely important to me that I’m taken seriously. While I don’t really talk about it on the blog, I have around 40 people who report to me just within my own company, and scores of colleagues who are vendors or customers. So this week I’ve learned to lay off the bright accessories and let the hair do the talking. It seems to be working well, since most people noticed the hair but didn’t really make a huge deal out of it. That alone helped assure me that I towed the line between conservative and punk to the best of my abilities.

Now what I wear on the weekends, that’s another story. I’m really excited to experiment with my faves, like leopard. That and I’m excited to do some shopping. For some reason I’m really feeling I need more gray to compliment this red.

What additions do you think I should make to my wardrobe that will compliment my new hair color? I’d love some suggestions!

Vegan Vogue / Fall Boot Roundup

22 Aug

This fall boot roundup originally appeared last week on my column Vegan Vogue I write for I Eat Grass.  If you haven’t stopped by I Eat Grass yet, be sure to do so!  There’s a ton of great vegan content over there ranging from recipes, to health and fitness, to even a sex column!

{image credit: www.herblog.com}

On the last Vegan Vogue post, I received a request in the comments section from Zoe of Sexy Tofu for some suggestions on vegan boots for fall.  I can’t believe it’s about that time to start thinking about putting away our sandals and bring out the boots!

Here’s my favorite vegan boot picks for this coming fall.

Flat Boots

Okay I’ll admit, my “flat” boot selection also includes some western style ankle boots which are very on trend for Fall 2012, and have an ever so slight heel.  Also, did you know Doc Martens now make a vegan boot?! All these should be very comfortable and perfect for weekend stroll enjoy the crisp fall breeze.

Wedge Boots

Wedges are not only super comfortable but make it really easy to navigate icy streets without slipping. Here’s some of my picks.

Dress Boots

If you work in a professional environment, you’ve gotta go with a dress boot to keep you warm in the office when temperatures go down.  These boots are also great for dressing up for a night on the town as well

Trendy

Looking for something more trendy?  This fall it’s going to be all about square heels, fold over boots, and a continuation of the cap toe trend we saw on ballet flats and pumps this spring.  Also, anything Jeffrey Campbell is always trendy and he has a pretty fab python pattern boot out that’s coincidentally vegan.

Waterproof

Looking for something waterproof so you can splash around in some puddles?  Good news is almost all rain galoshes are vegan.  Here’s some of my picks.

Vegan Versions / Jeffrey Campbell Lita Boots #3

5 Apr

My vegan wannabe JC Lita's arrived today! So stoked! #vegan
My brand spankin’ new wannabe Litas! (Finally!)

After months and months of looking up vegan options for the coveted Jeffrey Campbell Lita boot, I found a third option which is the one I finally decided to get.  I was searching Lulu’s vegan shoe selection one day and low and behold, there they were!

Unfortunately it looks like they must have sold out, because they’re no longer on the website.  I’m really thankful I ordered them when I did.  There’s a very similar one you can get here while they’re still available.  There’s also always the chance Lulu’s will restock them so keep an eye out.

Also, as a quick tip for vegan fashionistas in the UK, a follower informed me via Twitter that you can get another great vegan Lita option at boohoo.com.

I am so freaking excited to wear the hell out of these.

Typical New Yorker

CSA Driver{Jacket: Target (similar one here); Tunic: Thrifted H&M (similar one here); Leggings: Forever21; Boots: MIA; Camera Bag: THEIT}

I actually took these photos a few weeks ago and never got around to posting them.  I threw this together in a hurry on a Saturday morning.  I realized I had overslept and I was running late to my CSA driver shift.  In order to participate in our local CSA, each member has to volunteer three times over the course of the season.  You have to either volunteer handing out the farm shares or if you have a car, drive the unclaimed shares to the local soup kitchen.

I was driving this morning and didn’t want to be late.  I’ve learned that when you’re in a rush with no time to think, an all black ensemble is the way to go.  Well, technically I’m wearing gray leggings here but you catch my drift.  Wearing all black is such a typical, New Yorker look and considering we’re always in such a rush, I now understand why.  It looks great every time.

This particular outfit was ridiculously comfortable.  It was basically like wearing a sweats but way more presentable.

Yoga

{Chambray Shirt: Old Navy; Striped Dress (worn as tunic): H&M; Leggings: Forever21: Boots: MIA via After 6; Camera Bag: THEIT; Sunglasses: thrifted}

I wore this last weekend to go to yoga and brunch with Tracy.  I knew we were going to head out to eat immediately after class, so I needed to wear something comfortable, yet put together for going to a restaurant.  For yoga, I obviously left the boots in my locker along with the chambray shirt and put them on again when class was done.  It worked perfectly!

Now I’m on the hunt for more work out gear I can wear immediately after a workout without looking like a gym rat/slob after.  If anyone has any suggestions, throw them my way!
