Inside Out in Times Square

Last Friday, Jim and I took our friends Gina and Mark to MOMA and then headed slightly cross-town to Times Square.  The street artist JR currently has the Inside Out Project set up there and we wanted to check it out and hopefully get to participate.

JR is best known for his portraits, so as part of this project he’s taking portraits of New Yorkers throughout the 5 boroughs and installing them in areas around the city.  To make the process crazy efficient, they have a fully outfitted photography studio truck, so they’ve been moving the truck from neighborhood to neighborhood.  If you visit their Facebook Page, the portraits done around the Rockaways and other Sandy stricken areas are so powerful it makes me well up.  I highly recommend checking it out.

We had heard the photo truck was in Times Square so we took a quick walk over to see if we could participate.  Sadly, they weren’t there due to a 10k race being set up for the weekend.  But we still had a great time enjoying the incredible weather and checking out all the portraits pasted to the sidewalks.

Gina and I also wanted to take the opportunity to take our own portraits amongst the portraits.  How meta, right?

The Inside Out Project is supposed to be in Times Square through May 10th. Jim and I are still hoping to make it there one day after work to get ours done. If you participate you have the option to either have it pasted at the site, or to take it home with you. We’d love to have the portraits for our apartment, so fingers crossed we’ll be able to make it happen!

Last weekend Jim and I decided to head over to Soho for some fall shopping and flea market perusing. I wanted to take my cameras with me, so I finally broke out this awesome backpack Jim got me for my birthday.

Honestly, going the backpack route over a purse was extremely liberating. It had been so long since I’ve been hands free while shopping I totally forgot how awesome it was.

Red and Ruffles

{What I’m Wearing: Blouse: Beacon’s Closet; Pants: H&M (thrifted); Heels: Zara (eBay); Watch: Michael Kors}

I’m not usually a huge fan of ruffles.  They remind me of pirates.

For some reason though I couldn’t help myself from purchasing this blouse when I found it at Beacon’s Closet.  I think it was the stripes.  Actually, I take that back I know it was the stripes.

As you may or may not know, I seem to have serious addiction issues with stripes, leopard and neon yellow.  I’m trying to figure out an outfit that includes all three for IFBCon and LuckyFABB in a few weeks.  Okay, not really but most likely I will be wearing at least two of those items in any given outfit seen around NYC during Fashion Week, and it won’t necessarily be a conscious decision.

So if you spot a girl with big curly hair wearing any of those things, be sure to say hi!

July 4th

{Blouse: Old Navy; Jeans: Mavi; Shoes: Zara (vegan,found on Ebay); Headscarf: Vintage (my grandmother’s); Clutch/Wallet: Gunas}

Jim and I took an early bus up to Boston on the 4th, and got in around 11 am. We took our time getting acquainted to the city and our hotel, walking around Chinatown, and grabbing some lunch. In the late evening, we had a quick wardrobe change and got ready to go out to dinner.

A red, white and blue headscarf is as patriotic as I get on the 4th. During the day, I wore this same outfit from the waist up.  I just had on denim shorts and my neon yellow sandals instead of the jeans and heels.   If you checked out my packing tutorial yesterday, anything from the waist up I was actually wearing while taking the photos for that post, which is why they’re not included in the photos.

Just before dinner we headed up to the roof top deck, being it was recommended by the hotel concierge as being a good spot to watch the fireworks.  We enjoyed the view and took these few quick shots before headed out for some pizza and wine for dinner (I’ll be doing an entire post on all the food we had in Boston very soon!).

After dinner, we decided we’d probably have a better view of the sunset and the following fireworks from our hotel balcony.  So we went back to our room, enjoyed the stunning sunset, and watched the Boston Pops 4th of July Spectacular on TV.  Once the fireworks started, it was hard to miss them.  We had the most amazing view!

How did you spend the July 4th holiday?

Hot High Line

This past Tuesday, I took the day off from work for an extended Memorial Day holiday. Jim and I spent the day in Manhattan visiting the High Line extension in Chelsea, and then doing some gallery hopping in the area. It’s safe to say we were both pretty “arted-out” after the weekend was over.

It was ridiculously hot out, so I decided to try out an outfit similar to my Memorial Day Inspiration board and go with a breezy leopard blouse, shorts and wedges. I seem to be gravitating towards blouses and shorts a lot this season.

Stay tuned for posts on both our High Line adventure as well as our gallery hopping in the next day or so!

Spots and Dots

{Blouse: Old Navy; Shorts: Market Publique; Wedges: Target; Bag: Nine West (old)}

On Sunday during Memorial Day weekend Jim and I decided to head to the city and view the Whitney Biennial. It was pretty hot and sticky out, so I wanted to wear something that would be cool outside while be air conditioner friendly inside the gallery as well. I also wanted to be on the dressier side because galleries are always more fun when you’re a bit dressed up. My vintage polka dot shorts paired with my cheetah spot bag proved to suit my needs perfectly.

Airport Again

27 Sep
Waiting for my Flight{Scarf: Gifted; Blouse: H&M (thrifted); Jeans: Mavi; Loafers: Delia’s}

Today I’m traveling yet again. I’m attending a business conference in Annapolis, Maryland and will be there today through Friday. I’m hoping to get some photos while there (both of what we’re doing, as well as outfits) but don’t hold me to it, it is a business trip after all.

Not a Dress 1{Blouse: Forever 21; Skirt: Thrifted; Belt: H&M; Flats: Steve Madden (thrifted)}

I am so far behind at work right now it’s not even funny. It’s been a super busy week on top of it, with commitments after work the entire week. My stress level is through the roof, considering I’m trying to tie up a bunch of loose ends on both the work and home fronts prior to leaving for vacation next week.

I had grand plans to put together a post today of what we did on Labor Day (We went sailing… in Brooklyn! Fo’ real!), but for now it’ll have to wait until tomorrow evening most likely because I’m too pressed for time on this lunch break and there’s like, a kazillion photos I took for that post that need to be processed. In the meantime you’ll have to settle for this outfit I wore last week to go out for after-work cocktails with Nikki.

Not a Dress 2

I’m taking some time off from my stress this evening to enjoy some Fashion Night Out events.  I’ll for sure be attending the event at MooShoes, so if you’re there be sure to say hi!

I know I still owe everyone my final 5 outfits for my 30 for 30 challenge. The last week of the challenge the weather made it tough to get good photos. So I plan on re-wearing them in the next week or so and knocking those posts out.

This was the first outfit I wore after finishing the challenge.  I totally love Dolce and Gabbana’s  leopard/polka dot dresses from their Fall 2010 collection, so I figured it would be fun to play with what I already had in my closet. Call me a copy cat.

D&G Fall 2010 Runway

Waiting for Fall

31 Aug

It is so ridiculously hot here in Brooklyn today I can’t stand it.  It’s not too humid, but it’s still pretty unbearable.

To make the heat even worse, I got several packages delivered to work today with all the new items I recently purchased to complete my fall wardrobe.  Everything from over the knee boots, to comfy slouchy sweaters and layering pieces.  Ugh.  All I want is to wear this stuff now but it’s 102 degrees out.  Yuck.

Fall can’t come fast enough.

What I’m Wearing:

Maxi Dress: Century 21
Blouse: Score Swap Meet Find
Belt: H&M
Sandals: Alloy
Earrings: Junk in Williamsburg, Brooklyn
Bracelet: Thrifted
