Vegan Versions / Iridescent

STELLA MCCARTNEY // Iridescent Sequined Top$877.48

Though we’re still pretty early into spring, one big trend you can expect to see a lot of this season is iridescent. Iridescent doesn’t necessarily mean sequins and shimmer, but more of a holographic type look which if you ask me is WAY cool!

Vegan’s don’t have to miss out on all the fun. Here’s some of my favorite pieces out in stores that are vegan friendly and rock this trend HARD. Even vegan designer hero Stella McCartney has several items in her spring line which make being vegan and on-trend totally lust worthy.  I kinda want every piece in her shoe collection right now.

Here’s some great high and low budget items to work the trend.

FOREVER 21 // Iridescent Crescent Necklace $6.80

CHARLOTTE RUSSE // Clear Heel Iridescent Lace-Up Bootie $54.50

TOUCH UPS // Tammy Loafer  $37.99

BCBGENERATION // Rockie Dress Sandals $89.00

STELLA MCCARTNEY // Mirror Prism Pump $760

STELLA MCCARTNEY // Faux-Snake Flat Ankle-Wrap Sandal $445

STELLA MCCARTNEY //  Silver Irridescent Snake Print Ballet $395

What do you think of the iridescent trend?

Link Love

I really enjoy finding great content all over the Internet during my free time. I never really thought to share some of my favorite links until this recently. Here’s a sampling of some of my favorite discoveries I’ve come across this week.

  • V over at Grit and Glamour schools us on having good manners.
  • I’m loving Kelsey’s list of go to typefaces on Design for Mankind
  • The most brilliant, quick and healthy lunch idea ever. I’m excited to try this.
  • Budget Babe has a great tutorial on how to make any computer monitor look like an iMac
  • With the brand new McCarren Park Pool opening soon, seeing these images of it in it’s abandoned neglect really puts into prospective how gentrified the neighborhood has become.
  • Holy crap. While I feel bad for this guy’s wife, this is hilarious!
  • This post on Steven King’s top 20 tips for becoming a frighteningly good writer made me immediately add his “On Writing” on my Amazon Wish List.
  • Krisatomic did an fantastic roundup of the best iPhone photo editing apps in the iTunes Store.
  • This one’s an oldie but still as funny as when I first read it, 27 Rules for Conquering the Gym.
  • PCRM now had a VegRun Marathon Training Program. Should I ever suddenly forget how painful marathon training is, I’d for sure consider trying it.
  • Seeing this list of Fab Style Bloggers Over 30 made me feel really great about turning 3-1 next month.

Vegan Versions / DVF Opal Wedges

    30 Mar

Today’s vegan versions is courtesy of the Budget Babe.  I was so happy she posted about these because I was looking to upgrade my wedges to an all black pair this spring, and these were perfect for me.

I love how chunky and edgy the DVF wedges are.  They were exactly what I was looking for.  The Target Mossimo ones are almost an exact match!  I already ordered and got mine and have been wearing them non-stop in this beautiful, early spring weather we’ve been experiencing the past week and a half in NYC.

    12 Dates of Christmas / Date 1

    12 Dates of Christmas 2011

Damn. It’s amazing how immediately following Thanksgiving life blasts past at warp speed. I’ve been busier than ever at work ( lots of travel, yuck!) and on top of that trying to get caught up for the holidays.

While catching up with my Google Reader, I read about this great concept called “The 12 Dates of Christmas” on the Rockstar Diaries. Basically if your married or in a relationship, the holiday season is a great excuse to make time for 12 dates. Jim and I are trying it this year.

Our first date was to check out the Brooklyn Night Bazaar, which was a short 3 day bazaar filled with artisan gifts, treats and food. Though we didn’t find any gifts there, we did pig out on some Asia Dogs and Regal Vegan grub. And the mulled wine was a nice touch too.

    Rockin Raw

    Rockin Raw 1

Last Sunday my friend Tracy and I went to yoga class, and afterwards decided to go have brunch. She had earlier in the week suggested we eventually try Rockin’ Raw, Williamsburg’s local raw vegan restaurant. Since I was super impressed with the raw food at Pure Food and Wine, and the both of us love healthy fare (we’re both fitness nuts) we decided it was the perfect choice to check out for brunch.

It was an absolutely gorgeous, Indian Summer day, so we took advantage of their outdoor seating.

    Rockin Raw14

You can’t call it brunch without a bloody mary! Rockin’ Raw’s bloody’s were great. They had a slight fruity taste, which was a pleasant surprise.

As an appetizer, Tracy and I shared the nachos. They were made of flax crips topped with vegan cheese, tomatoes, and all the nacho topping standards. They were surprising delicious. Tasted just like the normal thing, just at room temperature.

We both coincidentally ordered the same thing as our meal. The lasagna. It was really flavorful. You could taste the concentration of flavors in the sauce. I could easily pinpoint sun-dried tomatoes and basil. The layers included zucchini and mushrooms, which I love. The kale topping with the nutritional yeast was a great addition. This dish was very, very filling. We both only managed to finish half of it. I took the leftovers home and they lasted very well the following day in the fridge.

For dessert, we both shared the Chocolate Pecan Tarte, yum! I never in a million years would have guessed it was raw. It was delicious.

    Rockin Raw5

Though it was an expensive brunch, it’s definitely a place I’d hit up again. The food was well worth the money. Check it out if you’re ever in the neighborhood and are looking for a good, healthy bite.

    Earthquake

    Earthquake 3{Blouse: Thrifted; Midi-Skirt: Thrifted; Belt: Love Brigade; Cuff: H&M; Heels: Target}

I’m alive!  No need to worry about me!  Yes, we experienced an earthquake yesterday and no, it wasn’t that bad.

I was at my office working on a project when my desk started rumbling.  I had thought it was an 18 wheeler truck passing by, which is not uncommon considering I work in an industrial area.  Then I noticed it was taking the truck a really long time to pass!  Didn’t take long for me to realize I was actually experiencing an earthquake.  Our cubicle walls were shaking and framed photos shaking all over the place.

Myself and the rest of our staff all ran outside while everything was still shaking, and then before we knew it, it was over.  Before my west coast buddies say anything, I’ll let you know I know now you’re supposed to take cover under a desk or something and not run outside.  We very rarely ever have any type of earthquakes over here, so I’m very thankful that it was a minor one considering no one here knew the best procedures for during one.  Hopefully we’re all a bit more educated about what to and not to do.

So this is what I wore during the great NYC earthquake of 2011.  Practically everything is finds from my recent “fall thrifting” trip this past weekend.  I really scored on a lot of awesome stuff, I’m stoked.

Not Vegan: Alexander Wang Leather Shorts

Sometimes I wonder how it is I can be a vegan but still LOVE the way leather looks. It’s so bad ass and slick. A good leather item can instantly make any outfit less girlie and more tough.

I’ve been absolutely loving the recent leather short craze. Especially Alexander Wang’s version. Let me tell you searching the internet for vegan options on this trend was infuriating, because if you input the wrong search terms you get a bunch of bootie shorts and banana hammocks. Yuck.

After some research I did find several viable options. While researching this post I fell in love with the Free People pair below, though they’re not high-waisted like the inspiration pair.  While in Manhattan after work this past Monday, I happened by their storefront (which I didn’t know they had one, I thought they were an online retailer).  I ducked in quick to see if they had them, and treated myself to an early birthday present.  They were on display right up front so I viewed it as a sign they were destined for my wardrobe.  Happy (early) Birthday to me!

What’s your thoughts on leather shorts? I have a feeling it’s you either love them or hate them, there’s no in-between.
