I noticed while putting this post together that all of a sudden, the tree is gone. This spot is my go to spot for quick photos, and there was always a tree in the background. Now there’s just a stub.

I asked my husband about it and he said some city sanitation workers had come by earlier in the week and they took it down, citing something about it being dead and “about to fall and kill someone”. Guess it was a zombie tree. Jokes aside, I was tremendously sad by this because just the week prior, I had spotted a nest full of baby birds inside a hole in the tree. All I can think about now is if those baby birds are okay and if the sanitation workers even noticed they were in there. My husband being the sweetheart he is tried to assure me the mother bird probably took her babies to safety, but I don’t know.

Sad.

wait, seriously? that IS sad…i’m a fan of trees, myself. not a hang-out-in-one-to-keep-it-from-being-cut-down kind of extremist, but a tree lover nonetheless. they’re nice and shady and green. either way…you look super chic and awesome here. love the jacket. a lot.

OH! That is a really tragic story! The poor birdies… And you live in the city, where trees aren’t so plentiful… and it made for such a nice backdrop…

On another note – really like the flares and am very impressed by your dedication to the 30/30 challenge!

p.s. You have inspired me to re-read my Grandmother’s copy of “A Tree Grows in Brooklyn”. Thank you.

Reading your post reminded me of my mom.. who would rescue stray kittens and pups in the neigbourhood and any other animal in need. Keep up your love for them as most in our busy world are too busy to bother anymore.

This comment made my day. Thank you! I feel an overwhelming compassion for animals on a daily basis, hence my veganism. I’m happy to share this same compassion with your mother and to have reminded you of this special memory.

Ugh. I hope DoS did check but unfortunately I think it just depends on the workers they happen to send out that day. Hoping for the best!

Hopefully they plant a new tree there.
