Big Weekend-What to Wear?

29 Sep

I am so freaking excited for this coming weekend for a few reasons.

  • First, October 4th marks my 2 year wedding anniversary with the love of my life.
  • Second, I took off from work and essentially have a five-day weekend.
  • Third, we’re finally doing the NYC “Staycation” we’ve been talking about for years.  We’re getting a fancy hotel in the city and doing all the touristy things we’ve always been meaning to do.  Our usual vacations consist of going to Jamaica, so this is a huge departure for us.
  • Fourth (and most exciting) is Friday we have tickets to the Friar’s Roast of Quentin Tarantino!!!!  Holy red carpet! (UPDATE: The roast was cancelled due to an editor and close friend of Tarantino’s tragic death.  It’ll be rescheduled and we’ll get to attend, but it will no longer coincide with anniversary weekend.  Bummer.)

That said, hubby and I will be doing much wining and (vegan) dining and rubbing elbows with celebs.  I didn’t want to go out and buy a whole new wardrobe for the weekend, but I did want to be able to dress up and have fun with it.  So I decided to rent a few dresses from Rent the Runway along with a few accessories to go with an existing dress I have.

Here’s what I have in mind:

For the evening of the Friar’s Roast

After putting this entire post together, my husband got a notice from the Friar’s that the roast is “business casual”.  I had originally had plans to wear this dress, but instead will pick something more appropriate for the daytime event (it’s a luncheon at 12 in the afternoon).  I’ll probably go with a pencil skirt and blouse.  I’ll still save this outfit for dinner that same evening because I think the outfit rocks.  Too bad the dress code is business-cazh because this outfit would have totally been red carpet worthy.

I’ve been DYING to wear an Herve Leger.  I know one of the best formal looks for me is body-con, and Herve is known for their body-con dresses.  Rent the Runway has a great selection of Herve’s, so I asked hubby’s input and he loved this purple multicolored number, which I felt would flatter me as well.  I also rented some black shiny earrings and cuff, and will round out the outfit with my own black pumps and faux snakeskin clutch (similar to what’s shown).

Dinner Option #1

I actually own this Dolce and Gabanna black sheath dress.  It’s been my go to LBD for years and was a fantastic investment.  As an option for dinner out one night, I plan on rocking this dress but accessorizing it with some rented pieces.  I’ve always loved Angelina Jolie‘s Oscar look the year she wore the black gown and emerald earrings, and this is my opportunity to style my dress a similar way.

Because they seem to go with everything, I’ll also wear my black platform pumps and faux snakeskin clutch with this ensemble as well.  No sheer black tights though like on the model in my dress picture.  Can you say dated?  Yuck.

Dinner Option #2

Rent the Runway has this great option to add an additional available dress for just $25 to your order.  So I decided to go ahead and add this gold Nicole Miller dress to my options for the weekend.  I’ll accessorize this one with all my own pieces, including the same clutch and shoes (less stuff to pack!) and my Miriam Haskell earrings my husband bought me for my birthday in ’08 to wear on my wedding day.

I am so freaking excited for the weekend!

The blue dress didn’t show up for me for some reason, but I love both dress options and the accessories too! I love that sheath dress of yours and agree wholeheartedly: NO black hose. However, if you want to sex it up definitely get thyself a nude pair with black backseam stitching: HOTT!

On a similar note: it’s my understanding that you rock the black dress often. If this is actually the case, then I say rock the gold dress.

I love that you can rent dresses! It’s funny, I was just thinking I need to start a business like that here, for people to lend/trade/borrow. Nice it’s already being done in NYC, why am I not surprised?? Xo
